Junior Section

Welcome

Welcome to our junior section which is hailed as one of the largest and the best in the area.  The junior section is open to both girls and boys under the age of 18.  There are about 100 junior members at the club and although membership was originally open to relations of full members, it is now open to all.

 

Organisers

The junior section is organised by the Junior Organiser, Jack Kirwan, ably assisted by Dave Brookes, Ashley Elliott,

Lucy Foster, John Griffin, Brian Lee, Mel Ince, Ian Handy.Andy Greenall.

 

Coaching

The junior coaching is provided by Craig Daggitt, who was the youngest person to qualify as a golf professional and always relates well with juniors.  We have regular club nights where professional tuition is provided.

 

Starting Golf

Prospective members are invited to an informal interview with the junior organiser(s) in which the full details of membership and how the club is organised are explained.

 

Handicaps

Three scorecards are required to obtain an official handicap and these may be completed during the Sunday morning reserved junior tee-times.  Special prizes are competed for by handicaps of 29+.

 

We have junior members, both girls and boys, whose handicaps are 5 or less and represent Cheshire at county level.  Two of our junior members have also represented the junior England squads.

 

Competitions

Junior competitions are held on Sunday mornings throughout the Summer.  The competitions commence at 11.30am.  To enter simply turn up before 11.15am when a draw will take place for order of play.

 

Major competitions include the President's Prize, The Captain's Prize, The Lady's Claret Jug and the Centenary Cup.

 

Team Competitions

The club has enters and is successful in various team competitions -The Williams BMW Match-play competition (in which 100 clubs in the Manchester are compete), A Cheshire team's championship, The Individual Mid-Cheshire Junior League (MCJL) and The MCJL overall winner. The Derbyshire and Cheshire League, both Scratch, and Handicap trophy for The Norman Peck Trophy.
